I hope you have all had a lovely half term break – it’s a shame the weather hasn’t been kinder, but hopefully it hasn’t stopped everybody from getting out and about.
Unfortunately I was absent from school last Thursday and Friday due to a family bereavement so was unable to upload a weekly update to the class page. I hope the children still managed to tell you about their week at school. I know they were very proud to show their Super Bugs to Mr Phillips in assembly on Friday afternoon!
In a couple of weeks we will be completing the Year 1 Phonics Screening Test with all of the children in our class. This will be done on a relaxed 1:1 basis over several days so that the children do not feel under any pressure. Just a gentle reminder that there are several things to do at home to help your child prepare for the check. The website www.letters-and-sounds.com
has several resources that can be printed off and used at home – for example, there are grapheme cards (letter patterns that show single sounds) that you can use as flashcards to encourage the children to recognise sounds quickly. I have attached the Phase 3 and Phase 5 grapheme cards document to our class page for your reference. The website www.phonicsplay.co.uk
is great for practising to read ‘alien words’ as these are often tricky for even the most fluent of readers! Our favourite game to use in class is ‘Obb and Bob’ which can be found in the free section of the website, under children’s games. I hope these resources are useful, please do dip in and out of them as much as possible!
I can’t believe we’re entering the final half term of the school year next week – where does the time go?! We have a great final topic unit called ‘We’re all going on a summer holiday’ which I know the children will really enjoy. We also have our class assembly coming up on Friday 13th June – I do hope many of you are able to come along and support the children on this day.
Enjoy the weekend, see you all on Tuesday!
