Thank you so much to everyone who came to support the children at our Harvest Celebration Assembly this morning. The children all sang beautifully, we hope you enjoyed it! Thank you also to everybody who donated tin cans to the One Can Trust charity and to those of you who kindly donated cakes for the children to enjoy on Friday morning. Your generosity and support is always greatly appreciated.
In Literacy this week we have been writing lists, labels and captions. The children wrote lists of things they would like to have at their imaginary ‘ideal party’. They organised their writing very clearly to show their understanding of how lists must be structured. In order to learn about labels and captions the children used their new Topic knowledge of toys from the past to open a toy museum. They worked in groups to produce information posters about toys from the 1950s to present day. They included pictures with clear labels and short captions to explain how each toy was made or how it was played with.
In Maths this week the children have really enjoyed our unit about measuring. We started the week by measuring using a uniform unit (e.g. cubes) but later progressed into measuring in centimetres using a ruler. Everybody has had great fun measuring objects around the school… and even measuring each other’s feet! (Photos to follow soon!)
In our Topic lessons we have started our Science based unit about seasonal changes. The children have considered how the weather in the four seasons can affect our day to day activities. They have loved experiencing the signs of Autumn over the last two weeks at school… I have lost count of the number of conkers that have been collected!
I look forward to meeting you all at the Parents’ Evenings next week. These are short ten minute appointments where I hope to give you an early indication of how your child is settling into Year 1. If you have not yet managed to book an appointment please contact the school office to arrange a suitable time.
We have noticed during PE this week that there are a number of children who do not have winter tracksuits for outside Games lessons. We will be outside whenever the weather is dry (and the ground is safe to use) so please ensure your child has suitable warm clothing for this. Thank you!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend,
