Well, as this week was ‘Italy week’ for our topic learning, the sun decided to pay us a visit and make us feel like we were really in Italy! It’s been extremely hot in school over the past few days, but the children have coped really well and have been sensibly sitting in the shade at lunchtimes.
On Tuesday morning we had a very special visitor – Mrs Lisetta! Mrs Lisetta works in the Italian ice-cream van at the Rye in High Wycombe, and she came to talk to us about her family traditions. The children enjoyed looking at photographs of where she grew up in Italy, and listened carefully to find out about her family’s traditions. They also learnt how to say ‘hello, my name is…’ in Italian! But, of course, the best part of the day was when Mrs Lisetta taught us how to order different flavours of ice-cream in Italian. We each ordered (and ate!) our very own ice-cream in the sunshine! On Wednesday afternoon the children tasted various traditional Italian foods and commented on their smell, taste and texture. This was followed by a pizza making activity, and an opportunity to design an Italian menu. If only we could finish things off with a trip to Italy!
On Wednesday morning we were lucky enough to watch the Year 6 production ‘Robin Hood and the Sherwood Hoodies’. It was absolutely brilliant – the acting and singing were fantastic, and the children loved being in the audience. I do hope some of you were able to attend the performance last night as it was something not to be missed!
Reports were sent home in bookbags today. I do hope you find these informative and interesting. Please return the signed acknowledgement slip as soon as possible as we do need to receive these from everybody before the end of term. If you are able to, please do comment on your child’s report – we very much appreciate your opinions.
Next week the children will be bringing home some of their school books. If possible, please send a strong carrier bag to school with your child on Monday to help them carry things home. School will close at 2pm on Wednesday, and all children will need a packed lunch on this day as there will be no hot dinners available.
I hope to post a final weekly update on Wednesday next week, but for now… enjoy the sunshine!
