I have been so impressed with how settled and happy the children have been in our class this week. They are already confident with our routines and are looking very grown up!
In Literacy this week we have been thinking about the story language used in ‘Peace At Last’ (by Jill Murphy). The children each wrote their own opening to the story, ensuring that their full stops and capital letters were in the correct places. They have also completed a book review to show their understanding of the characters, setting and plot.
In Maths this week we have been focusing on addition by counting on. We have used a number line to help us ‘jump on’. For example, when trying to calculate 7 + 3, children find number 7 on the line and jump on three more. For those children needing a challenge, we asked them to use a 100 square (10x10 grid) to answer calculations involving larger two digit numbers.
In our Topic work we have continued our unit ‘Marvellous Me’. The children have made fantastic 3D skeleton pictures using art straws to demonstrate their knowledge of basic bones e.g. skull, pelvis, spine and rib cage. We have also thought about how to keep our bodies healthy… I was pleasantly surprised to see that ‘shopping’ had been listed on some children’s mindmap of ideas!
The children thoroughly enjoyed their second Games lesson with our external coach Mr Tandy. They are developing a range of skills and are very enthusiastic during lessons.
Thank you to all the parents who helped to cover the children’s Big Writing books last weekend. If you didn’t manage to find the time, please don’t worry… we will be sending them home for you next weekend.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend,
