Welcome back, I do hope you all had a lovely Easter break.
It’s only been a short week, but we have been very busy as always! In Maths we have been learning about 3D shapes. We are now all able to identify common 3D shapes (sphere, cube, cuboid, cylinder etc.) and some children can describe the properties of shapes using vocabulary such as edges, faces and vertices. I hope the children enjoying hunting for real life examples of 3D shapes around their homes this weekend!
In Big Writing we have written a holiday recount. The children have been encouraged to use time connectives to help keep events in order as they tell the reader what has happened. I have also introduced the children to their new, personalised, writing targets. They each have a target star chart at the front of their Big Writing book, which allows them to colour in a star each time they achieve their target. I am so proud of the level of writing in our class, and the children seemed very excited to have an opportunity to be aiming even higher than usual!
Our topic for this half term is ‘Our Wonderful World’. We are starting the topic with an RE unit about creation stories. Today the children heard the Christian story of the creation of the world, and next week they will experience different religious and scientific ideas about how the world began. I’m hoping to hear some interesting opinions!
On Monday we will be having our sponsored swim. Please do continue to collect sponsorship money over the weekend as I’m sure this will motivate the children to try their very best on Monday morning! Please ensure all children come to school with their named swimming kit. Thank you!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend – let’s hope it’s not too soggy!
