Cedar Park School

Working together to be the best we can

Year 3

Summer Term 2018

Welcome to the Summer Term!  I hope you all had a great Easter break and managed to find some sunny weather somewhere! We're all looking forward to a busy and exciting time ahead in Year 3.

Our topic this term is "Ancient Egypt" and the children will be learning all about the structure of ancient Egyptian civilization and the importance of the Egyptian gods and Pharaohs.  They'll also find out about the Underworld and life after death by exploring the process of mummification!  Most of our literacy and art will be linked to the Egyptians this term and we are also planning to have an exciting Ancient Egyptian Assembly!

The Curriculum News for Summer, which will be published shortly, will outline all the areas of study in greater detail.

Staff in Year 3 this Summer

Teachers - Mrs Knight-Thomas (Mon-Tues), Mrs Carmichael (Wed-Fri).
Mrs Gow will continue to take the class on Friday mornings for Guided Reading to cover PPA.

Teaching Assistants (Mon-Fri am) - Mrs Dodd,  (Mon-Wed am) - Mrs Thomas, (Thurs-Fri am) - Mrs Crocker.

(Mon-Fri pm) – Mr Schofield, (Wed-Fri pm) - Mrs Bevins.

Other Information:

Home Reading Records -  Please continue to read with your child as much as possible and record a minimum of 4 times in the Reading Record book. This should be handed in on a Monday morning to be checked, and then it is returned to your child. If your child reads a minimum of 4 times for 4 weeks (these don't have to be consecutive weeks) they will be rewarded with a sticker!

Homework Diaries -  Please make sure these are in school every day and signed each Monday morning to confirm that your child has shown you their diary.   Diaries should be handed in on a Monday and will be checked for a signature.  They are a great means of communication between school and home, and the children will be writing in them often to send messages back from the teachers.  Feel free to use this as a method to communicate with us too.

Homelearning - maths and literacy homelearning will be set on a Friday and needs to be handed in the following Friday.

Spellings - a spelling test will take place on Monday mornings and new spellings will be handed out on a Tuesday.

Cracking Times Tables – will continue every Thursday morning.  The children are really enjoying this and it's a fun way for them to learn their times tables, which are so important at this stage of their learning.

Library - we will continue to visit the library every two weeks on a Monday afternoon.

PE  -  PE lessons this half-term will take place on Monday and Thursday afternoons.  On Mondays we will have Gym and on Thursdays we will have Games.  In the second half of this term, we will have Athletics on Monday afternoons and Swimming on Thursday mornings.

If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to make an appointment through the office, or send an email to office@cedarpark.org.uk, and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
