Working together to be the best we can

Year 4

Welcome to the Year 4 page!

Summer Term

This term our big focus is on the Romans! There are lots of exciting things to discover and experience as we explore this incredibly interesting subject. We will be learning all about the history of Rome and the foundation myth, studying how Rome became such a powerful Empire, as well as looking at their influence and legacy on life today.

Of course, we will also be continuing our learning in maths, literacy and other areas of the curriculum! In Literacy lessons, children will learn about various writing styles and use specifically chosen texts to inspire their own writing. This term we will focus on newspapers, visual literacy and Roman myths.

In Maths this term, our lessons will recap on previously learned work, especially the four operations, as well as taking on real-world maths projects which will require a range of maths skills.

One popular science topic this term is human digestion. As part of this learning we will find out which human organs are involved in digestion and create a rather messy model of the human digestive system!

Children's Aims

In Year 4 we all want to enjoy our learning and try our best in everything we do. We aim to set a good example throughout the school by incorporating our core School and British values in everything that we do and by developing Growth Mindsets! We act as role models for younger children and support each other throughout our learning.

Our Team

Year 4 at Cedar Park are currently taught by Mr Spurway and are also very fortunate to be joined by Mr Schofield, our fantastic teaching assistant. During the year, we will aim to supplement classroom learning through a variety of exciting experiences that will include special theme days, trips, visitors and outdoor learning.

We hope that all children enjoy Year 4, approach learning in a positive way and develop their independence in order to become enthusiastic, life-long learners.
