Year 3

Year 3

Welcome back!   I hope you all had a great Easter break and enjoyed the sunny weather.  The children have settled back quickly into school life  and we are looking forward to an exciting term ahead.

Staff in Year 3

Teachers - Mrs Knight-Thomas (Mon-Tues), Mrs Carmichael (Wed-Fri).
Mrs Gow will be taking the class on Wednesday afternoons for Art.

Teaching Assistant (Monday-Friday mornings)- Mrs Dodd.

Our Topic this term is “Ancient Egypt” and we will be linking this with many areas of the curriculum, including literacy, history and geography.

Curriculum News, available on this web page shortly, will outline the topics we will be focusing on in each area of the curriculum.  Thank you all so much for continuing to support your children at home with homework – especially reading and learning the times tables!  It really makes a difference to their progress.

Home Reading Records -please remember to keep completing the Home Reading Record and changing your school reading book when you have finished it.   Please continue to read with your child as much as possible and record a minimum of 4 times in the Home Reading Record book.  The Reading Record book needs to be handed in on a Monday morning to be checked, and then it is returned to your child. If your child reads a minimum of 4 times for 4 weeks (these don't have to be consecutive weeks) they will be rewarded with a sticker.

Homework Diaries - please continue to make sure these are in school every day and signed once a week to show that your child has completed their homework.  Homework Diaries need to be handed in on a Monday and will be checked for a signature.

Spellings -  The spelling test will now be on a Monday morning.   New spellings handed out on a Tuesday.

  • Homework - maths and literacy homework will be set on a Friday and needs to be handed in the following Friday.
  • Cracking Times Tables - the Cracking Times Tables test will continue each Thursday morning.

  • PE/Games - PE lessons this term will take place on Monday and Thursday.   On Monday afternoon we will have Games and Wednesday afternoon either Gymnastics or Circuits outside.  We will have swimming in the second half of the Spring term on Thursdays.

  • Library - we will visit the library every two weeks on a Monday afternoon.

  • If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to make an appointment through the office, or send an email to, and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
