Welcome to Year 4
I hope you all had a restful and relaxing summer break and are ready for the challenges Year 4 will bring.
I will add more details as the term starts so check back here soon.
- The topic this term is the Ancient Greeks
- Every Thursday the children have their cracking times tables check.
- Every Friday the children will have their spelling test – Next week’s spellings will be sent home every Friday.
- Homework will be given every Friday to return on the following Thursday (please do not spend more than 30 minutes on this). Please let me know if your child needs more help to complete any tasks.
Reading Books - Parents are asked to continue to read and discuss texts with children and record a minimum of 4 sessions a week.
We will visit the Library when it is our turn so children will always have the opportunity to change their books and we also have a range of books in the classroom. We can’t stress enough the importance of reading and understanding a text as it is vital to access so much of the curriculum.
Home Learning Diaries - Children should write Home Learning tasks and any reminders in their Home Learning Diary every week. If there is no Home Learning they should write “No HL” so parents know they haven’t just forgotten to write it down! This is an excellent way to communicate too, so feel free to send any non-urgent messages using it. Diaries should be in school every day.
PE & Games - Our PE slots for the Autumn Term will be on a Monday and Tuesday. It is important to wear PE kit for PE days. Earrings must be taken out for PE and we would thoroughly recommend not wearing them on days when there is PE. Tuesday will be indoor and Monday is our outside PE day.
Uniform - We remind you that children are expected to set a good example and look smart at all times. Hair should be tied back with plain hair ties and clips of a colour which blends in with school uniform. Ear studs are permitted as the only type of jewellery but nothing else.
Pencil Cases - Please send your child in with the equipment they need. In year 4 the children need to bring from home:
- Pencils
- Pen
- Eraser
- Sharpener
- Ruler
- Colouring pencils
- Glue stick
- Whiteboard pens
Please kindly replenish them as and when required.
Finally, please communicate with me whenever necessary as it is important that your child feels happy and safe in school and is making good progress. You can catch me on the playground at the end of the day or you can contact the office via phone or email and I will get back to you are soon as possible. Thank you for your ongoing support, I look forward to getting to know your children this term and having a wonderful time in Year 4 with them!
