Cedar Park School

Be Kind. Be Inspired. Believe.

High Five

At Cedar Park, we value children making links in learning. We want children to make these links from previous lessons, units of learning and academic years, as well as establishing connections to contexts out of the school environment. In order to do this, we start each lesson by triggering their prior learning.

This learning takes the form of our 'High 5'.

So what is High 5?

Our High 5 is a part of the lesson, most often at the beginning, where the teacher and children will spend a maximum of 5 minutes recalling what has been previously learnt and placing that in the context of the learning that is about to take part.

By doing this, children establish that learning is a process, and that the things they have done in the past are helping them to face sterner challenges as they get older.
